You're told to 'drink deep' when it comes to Christ and His Word, but there is never a chance for leisurely sipping. You are only one of two things.

Dehydrated: Thirsty and desperate and continuously seeking something that will quench this intense and constant thirst, yet only gulping down mouthfuls of hot sand.

Drowning: So engulfed in the Sea of the Word that no land is in sight and the deep, dark blue is the most comforting and beautiful thing you've encountered. Getting pulled in by waves is like being embraced, not destroyed.

There is very rarely, if ever, a moment in which you have the time to stop and sit and simply enjoy a cool, refreshing drink or to enjoy even a gentle drizzle. If there is, are we really learning much in these moments?

If we're not being tried by heat or trained in the perpetual throw of waves, do we care so much when we're just strolling along aimlessly? I do not believe that we would learn much in this way often if for no other reason than there are so many things to get distracted by.

--- to be continued?
